Memories

I lost my sweet Pop this morning. He has been struggling with congestive heart failure for several months and had gotten very weak and uncomfortable in the last several days.

Growing up, Pop was pretty much the only other male role model that I had besides my father. My other grandfather, and all but one of my great-aunts never were married or their husbands passed away by the time I was seven or eight.
This picture is of him holding Nathan when he was a newborn.

Here are some of my favorite memories of him:

  • He always kept an endless supply of Worther's Originals and peppermints next to his chair for us.

  • His favorite dessert was a coke float, and he had one almost every night.

  • He used to take us with him to feed his cows. He taught us to drive in those pastures - we would steer while he hopped out and threw hay out for the cows.

  • He always had the most loyal dogs. They rode with him everywhere in the back of his truck.

  • He and my grandmother had one of the most beautiful intimate relationships I have ever known. Every night, they would spend about an hour reading the Bible and praying together. When we spent the night with them, you could hear them talking all the way down the hall. He would get up every morning and fix breakfast for her.

  • He always kept a Bible next to his chair, and next to his bed, and reminded us constantly to make God the most important thing in our lives.

He will be missed very much, but we all know that he is safely in the arms of his Saviour.

As a side note, I went back to the doctor yesterday for sonogram, blood work, and bp check. Sonogram checked to make sure that there hasn't been any change in my amniotic fluid levels. Blood work results will be back on Tuesday. Blood pressure was fine, even after 2 hour drive, and hour of being poked and prodded.

My very creative sister in-law came Thursday and helped me get the nursery cleaned out and decorated. Thanks, Natalie!
